Jarrod Jacobs: The Scarlet Rope

Joshua 2 is probably most well-known for the record of the spies escaping Jericho by being let down from Rahab’s house by a scarlet line or rope (v. 15, 18, 21). Albert Barnes says, “The ‘line’ or cord was spun of threads dyed with cochineal: i.e., of a deep and bright scarlet color...” (Joshua Commentary).

Jim Waters: Get ready, stay ready for ESG attempts

"Testifying at a recent state Public Pension Oversight Board (PPOB) meeting, Mills, a Republican from Henderson, indicated he’s drafting a bill requiring the primary objective of those making investment decisions directing public pension funds be maximum financial return, not furthering a woke ESG agenda."

Rolling Blackouts: Energy issues move to the forefront

For most Kentuckians, the reliability of our energy supply is not something we think about too often. We flip a switch or press a button and the lights come on the temperature changes in our homes and offices. That confidence is waning, however, as concerns grow regarding the reliability of our electric grid and regulatory policies impact supply. Utility costs have increased as well. For generations, Kentucky had the second or third lowest utility rates in the nation. Recently, rates have risen dramatically.

Monumental By: Cheryl Hughes

Recently, I bought a printer, one that I convinced myself I had to have.  It wasn’t expensive—far from it. The price was on the low end of the spectrum.  It is a brand name, much respected in printerdom.  It’s very small.  That’s what I told myself I wanted.  I was tired of the extra space the larger printers need.  I read the description—printer, copier, scanner.  That was all I needed.  I ordered it before Christmas, but didn’t take it out of the box until last week, which means the date has passed for free returns.

Jarrod Jacobs: Just Like You??

What if you knew of people who were trying to be just like you? What if folks wanted to dress like you, act like you, talk like you, be employed at the same place, live in the same town you live in, etc.? What would you think of people like that? Do you think this would be a wise thing for folks to do? Would you encourage people in this pursuit? Why or why not?

Jim Waters: Know much about Black history?

It’s Black History Month.

Over the next few weeks, our nation will recognize struggles and contributions of Black Americans, whose history – unlike that of any other race – is one of enslavement and severe discrimination.

Patty Craig: A Slice of Time

This year, Super Bowl Sunday is February 12th. The game will be played at the State Farm Stadium in Glendale, Arizona. Super Bowl Sunday has many traditions: the pre-game show, the snacks and food before and during the game, the coin toss, the half-time show, the Gatorade color that’s dumped on the winning coach (a betting opportunity), the post-game interviews, and the commercial spots throughout the game. Some of these traditions are more entertaining than others.

Cheryl Hughes: The Middle

I am the middle sister of five girls.  Two older.  Two younger.  I have two younger brothers, as well, but they do not change the family dynamic for me.  I have always been the middle child, if only in my own mind.  I know who I am, and I know my role in the family.  I am my sisters’ keeper.
