Butler County Chapter NSDAR honors BCHS Senior Lydia Wilcox as Good Citizen

Lydia Wilcox is the 17-year-old daughter of Tonya Wilcox of Morgantown and William Wilcox of Bowling Green. While attending Butler County High School, she has been an active member of the Chamber and Madrigal Choirs and has participated in a multitude of choral events including singing at local churches, sporting events, WKU Honors Choir, Quad State Choir, All State Choir, KSBA annual meetings and the Boys State Basketball tournament at Rupp Arena.

David Engler performed his service in the American Revolution as a Soldier in New Jersey. He served in the New Jersey Militia, the “Jersey Blues”. They were acting as the rearguard for General Nathaniel Greene when they were attacked by surprise, according to pension papers, R3353V, filed by his wife in 1855 in Muhlenburg County, KY. They are referenced in the County Court Order Book 2, P 320, on FHL Roll #8338998. The documents say he only served 14 days and was injured after Philadelphia was taken in the Battle of Brandywine through the Battle of Germantown.

Gruber brings home state title

On Wednesday, March 27th, Butler County Middle School attended the state STLP competition.  The STLP (Student Technology Leadership Program) State Championship is held at Rupp Arena in Lexington, Kentucky each spring.  Students from schools across the state attend in hopes of winning a state title.  This year, Mark Gruber was successful in bringing home a state title for BCMS.  Mark won 1st place in the middle school division for Digital Element Design at the state STLP competition.  BCMS even used his digital design for their club t-shirts this school year.  The Digital Element Design cate

Forage and Weed Management Focus of Stockman’s Meeting – March 28, 2024

The annual meeting of the Butler County Stockman’s Association will be Thursday, March 28th at the Butler County Extension Office at 6:00 p.m.  Rachel Walker, Pasture Specialist for Corteva, will present on forage and weed management.  Butler County 4-H will cook a meal from locally sourced meat and we will announce winners of this year’s forage contest.

Benjamin Sublett entered the Continental Army on 6 Dec 1776 in Sussex Co. VA.  He is listed as a Private in June 1777, in Captain James Gray’s 15th VA Regiment of Foot, commanded by Lt. Col. James Innes. By July 1777 he was a Corporal.

Community Action accepting scholarship applications

The Community Action of Southern Kentucky, Inc. Community Services Office is accepting applications for a $1000 Community Services Block Grant (CSBG) Scholarship.  The CSBG Scholarship helps provide training or retraining required for the local job market.  The CSBG Scholarship is open to income-eligible individuals wanting to return to school or continue their education.  Scholarship benefits can be applied to fees, tuition, or textbooks at a college/university, vocational/technical school, or trade/professional program.

Garden Program Begins April 1st, 2024 and ends May 15th, 2024

The Community Action Garden Program is designed to encourage economic self-support by providing low-income households with the essential materials to start growing a vegetable garden. 

Eligible program participants receive a voucher from Community Action of Southern Kentucky, Inc.  The voucher can be used to purchase garden products, such as, garden seeds, garden plants, and/or fertilizers.
