Lee named to Dean's List at Georgetown College

Ernest Lee, son of Jeff and Lisa Lee of Morgantown, KY has been named to the Dean's List  at Georgetown College.  The Dean's List is made up of students earning a 3.7 GPA or higher with twelve college credits or more.  Ernest, a 2018 graduate of Butler County High School has just completed his first year at Georgetown after transferring from WKU.   Ernest is majoring in Political Science.

FEATURE: Butler County Schools' Superintendent Scott Howard Retires

When Scott Howard entered fourth grade, at Fifth District Elementary School, in Butler County, he walked into his classroom and discovered Danny Deweese was to be his homeroom teacher.  Danny Deweese became an inspiration to young Scott Howard, and by the end of that school year, he was leaning in the direction of elementary school teacher as a life path.  (Danny Deweese remains one of Scott’s closest friends.)  By the time Scott graduated from BCHS in 1985, he knew he wanted to be an educator.  Four years later, Scott graduated from WKU wit

Local Students Named To WKU Spring 2020 Honors Lists

BOWLING GREEN, Ky. – The following Western Kentucky University students from Warren and surrounding counties were named to the honors lists for the spring 2020 semester. Full-time undergraduate students with a semester grade-point average of 3.4 to 3.79 are named to the Dean’s List. Students with a GPA of 3.8 to 4.0 are named to the President’s List. Coronavirus Food Assistance Program for Farmers

Butler County Farmers who have seen their markets disrupted by Coronavirus may be eligible to participate in the USDA Coronavirus Food Assistance Program.  This United States Department of Agriculture program is part of the CARES act passed by congress earlier this year.  Many types of crops and livestock have seen prices negatively impacted by the virus.  The FSA Service Center is accepting applications from until August 28, 2020.  There

BC Drug Free: Drinking and Social Distancing

In this time of social distancing and staying home, your teen probably has more time on their hands than usual.  Could this lead to drinking alcohol?  Most definitely.  Teens try alcohol for a variety of reasons, such as boredom, stress, peer pressure, or because they think it gives them some kind of independence.  Believe it or not, the average age for a first drink is 14.  Teen brains are more vulnerable to alcohol because it can alter brain development, and research shows that the teen brain does not fully develop until age 25.  Here are some helpful tips to encourage a healthy lifestyle

Help young people learn about pollinators

Pollinators are important; because they help many of the plants we enjoy reproduce. If you like eating apples or watermelons or looking at beautiful flowers, then you enjoy the handiwork of pollinators. June is National Pollinator Month, and June 22-28 is Pollinator Week. In honor of these upcoming events, here are some ideas to teach youth about the importance of pollinators.
