American Legion Post 151 sponsors Dustin Johnson

For the 2nd year, American Legion Post 151 of Morgantown is sponsoring a BCHS Junior for the Kentucky Boys State.  Dustin Johnson, son of Patrick and Lisa Johnson of Morgantown, will be attending a week long camp this summer.   

Kentucky Boys State is a camp where young men, entering the 12th grade in the fall, from across Kentucky learn about state government and learn leadership skills that will prepare them for their futures.
 

BCHS would like to thank the American Legion Post 151 for their continued support of the young men of our county.

Project Prom Thank Yous!

The BCHS Project Prom committee would like to thank the following for their part in making the 2019 event successful.  Our students had a fun night of playing games, eating, and participating in various activities to win money and prizes.

We also want to thank everyone who participated in fundraising or purchased items from one of our fundraisers. A special thank you to all those individuals who volunteered their time on the night of Project Prom for prepared and/or sent food.

4-H Region 6 Communications Day

On Tuesday, April 30, 2019 Butler County had a total of nine entries for 4-H Region 6 Communications Day. Everyone did an outstanding job! To make it to the regional level the participant must have first won at a county level. The following youth participated in the Speech Category which is broken down by age divisions. Brayden Barks competed in the11 year old division and won a blue ribbon. Maggie Drake competed in the 12 year old division and won a blue ribbon. Martín Brown competed in the 13 year old division and won a red ribbon.

Things to consider if you want to produce your own eggs

Backyard chicken flocks are popular in all areas of Kentucky. If you want to have a successful flock and produce your own eggs, preparation and education are essential. 

Not everyone is suited for keeping a poultry flock. Make sure you check that your local city and county ordinances allow backyard flocks. Some ordinances require a minimum amount of land, and some subdivisions even have their own rules.

USDA Announces New Decision Tool for New Dairy Margin Coverage Program

WASHINGTON, April 30, 2019 — Agriculture Secretary Sonny Perdue announced today the availability of a new web-based tool – developed in partnership with the University of Wisconsin – to help dairy producers evaluate various scenarios using different coverage levels through the new Dairy Margin Coverage (DMC) program.

Local young ladies participate in Inner Glitter Pageant

Shelby Mathews and Shelby Gwathney

Three local young ladies participated in The Inner Glitter Pageant this weekend in Hartford, Kentucky.  The pageant was created by Matilda and Paisley Patterson, a mother, and daughter who wanted to give those with special needs a platform to sparkle.
Shelby Gwathney, Shelby Mathews, and Becky Burden participated.

Butler County Students attend JA Girl$; learn about financial literacy

When Kentucky’s high school freshmen start school in the 2020-21 school year, they’ll be expected to complete a new financial literacy course or program to graduate. Courses or programs that meet the financial literacy standards are now a requirement for high school graduation.
