United Way announces over $41,000 in investments in Butler County

(July 18, 2022) - United Way of Southern Kentucky announced today that it is investing a total of $41,000 in Education, Health, and Safety Net programs and services for its July 1, 2022, to June 30, 2023, funding period in Butler County. Seven local programs provided through five service providers will receive the allocated campaign dollars and donor designations. In total, $968,514 will be invested across the 10-county Barren River Area Development District (BRADD).

New state laws take effect this week

FRANKFORT – The Kentucky General Assembly passed 234 bills during this year’s legislative session, and most will take effect on Thursday.

That means that fentanyl dealers and porch pirates will face tougher penalties, the rules for public assistance are changing, and local school boards will be required to hold a public comment period.

164 (2.5%) of KY National Guard soldiers have refused Covid-19 shot

As of July 6, only 2.5% of Kentucky Army National Guard soldiers have refused a Covid-19 vaccine, thus missing the June 30 federal deadline to get vaccinated. Another 2.5% have asked for an exemption, so 95% are largely in compliance, according to the agency's public-affairs office.
