April is National Distracted Driving Awareness Month

Distracted driving continues to be a danger to everyone on the nation’s roads. In 2020, 3,138 people died in distracted driving crashes in America, according to the latest data from National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA). AAA East Central reminds motorists that no life is worth losing to distraction and encourages all drivers to remain focused on the road ahead to save lives.

Legislators pass a series of major bills ahead of the veto recess

FRANKFORT – The Kentucky General Assembly gaveled out for a 10-day veto recess after passing a landmark state budget and a volley of other prominent bills this week on tax reform, charter schools, abortion, gambling, elections and changes to public assistance.

In all, lawmakers delivered 140 bills to the governor’s desk over a two-day marathon of voting and debate on the chamber floors. The action wrapped up close to midnight on Wednesday.

Bill to overhaul public assistance clears final hurdle

FRANKFORT — A bill that aims to revamp public assistance benefits and combat fraud is headed to the governor’s desk after it received final approval from the Kentucky General Assembly on Wednesday.

House Bill 7 would create new rules around the presumptive eligibility for benefit recipients and seek more accountability from the state Cabinet for Health and Family Services. It would also establish penalties for fraudulent sales of benefit cards.

Grant Money Available to Church Youth Groups in Butler County

People Who Care Ministries, Inc. was created to aid women and men in the recovery of drug and alcohol addiction by operating Andrea’s Mission and Andrea’s Mission for Men located in Morgantown. Their primary goal was to introduce people to Jesus Christ by guiding and preparing participants for returning to life as responsible drug-free citizens.  Both entities were licensed by the State of Kentucky and Joint Commission Accredited.  Unfortunately, the facilities were closed in 2019 due to a lack of funding.

Eight people indicted on "organized crime" charges for allegedly attempting to traffick drugs in BC Jail

A group of individuals has been indicted by a Butler County Grand Jury following a possible attempt to bring methamphetamines into the Butler County Jail for possible trafficking purposes.  One individual allegedly involved was a deputy jailer, Vanaaron Turgeon.  He was among those indicted and has since been fired from the jail.

Local Republicans rally for Lincoln-Reagan event
