Anita Threlkel Minton: MY DAR PATRIOT

"Jacob Souder (Sowder) served as a Private in the American Revolution for Virginia, Colonial America. He enlisted on 6 March 1778 and was discharged on 16 March 1779. According to the DAR.org website source information for his service is as follows: NARA M881, Comp Military Service Records, Roll #976 and the Virginia MAG of Histories and Biographies, Vol 1, p 207; he served under Captain John Smith and Major Isaac Beall. He also served under Colonels Wood and Nevill and with the 4th Virginia Regiment in General Scott’s Brigade. Part of this service took place at Valley Forge, Pennsylvania and White Plains, New York.


Jacob Souder, my 5 th great grandfather, was born circa 1734 in Virginia and died in May of 1819 at Montgomery County, Virginia, buried in an unmarked grave at his farm near Copper Hill, Virginia. He married first about 1765, Elizabeth (1738-1785) of Maryland. Jacob and Elizabeth had 9 children, one of which was Mary Ann (Polly) Sowder, my 4 th great grandmother, born about 1775 and died in July 1836 in Albany, Clinton County, Kentucky. She married Jesse Grand Deweese, born about 1770 and died about 1838 in Albany, Clinton County, Kentucky. They married on November 1, 1796, in Montgomery County, Virginia. Jesse and Mary had 10 children, one of which was Pearson Miller Deweese, my 3 rd great grandfather, born January 7, 1809, in Kentucky and died in Butler County, Kentucky on August 29, 1855. Pearson is buried in the Pearson Miller Deweese Cemetery located on Old Morgantown Rd in Jetson, Butler County, KY. Pearson Deweese married Celia Jane Smith of North Carolina (1813-1869) on August 4, 1831, in Tennessee. Pearson and Celia Jane had 13 children, one of which was William Deweese, my 2 nd great grandfather. William was born in 1835in Clinton County, Kentucky and died about 1870 in Butler County, Kentucky. He married Elizabeth A. Phelps (1842-1916) on September 9, 1861, in Butler County, Kentucky. One of their children Sarah Crittenden Deweese my great grandmother was born on May 9, 1862, in Butler County who died on June 5, 1933, in Warren County, Kentucky. Sarah married Henry Thomas Threlkel (June 1864- June 1933) in 1883 in Kentucky. Henry and Sarah had 7 children including Carter Clay Threlkel, my grandfather, who was born on September 19, 1895, in Butler County, Kentucky and died on June 28, 1975, in Christian County, Kentucky. He married Carrie Myrtle Young (1899-1970) on June 27, 1914, in Butler County, Kentucky. They had 11 children, one of them was Henry B Threlkel, my father, on April 5, 1922, who died on August 27, 2013, in Butler County, Kentucky. Henry married his 2nd wife Lois Marie Cannon, my mother(1930-2022) on August 24, 1946, in Bowling Green, Warren County, Kentucky."
