Industrial Hemp Education Program

Date:
Tuesday, February 19, 2019 - 6:00pm

The Butler County Extension Service is offering our first educational program on industrial hemp on February 19th at 6:00 p.m.  The program will be offered at the Butler County Extension Office located at 102 Parkway Lane, Morgantown Kentucky.  Thomas Keene is an agronomy specialist at the University of Kentucky.  Mr. Keene will discuss things that the UK College of Agriculture has learned about producing industrial hemp during our 4 years of conducting experiments.  This meeting is designed to provide researched based information for growers and potential growers of industrial hemp.  This crop has created a tremendous amount of excitement in the agriculture community.  The Kentucky Department of Agriculture administers the Industrial Hemp research program in Kentucky.  I encourage anyone interested in learning about growing industrial hemp to visit their “industrial hemp pilot program” website before our February 19th program to gain some background on how tightly the production of industrial hemp is regulated.  Neither the University Of Kentucky College Of Agriculture nor Mr. Keene are processors of industrial hemp, so please don’t come to the workshop anticipating a lot of discussion about the economics of the crop.  We will cover what UK Extension has learned about its production.  Anyone interested in the crop is encouraged to attend and the program is free.
