Patty Craig: A Slice of Time

The song lyrics of Santa Claus Is Coming to Town, say: “He's making a list, he's checking it twice….” This time of year, many of us make lists as well. Our lists likely include gifts for family and friends. And those Christmas lists are meant to help us get things done.

Thinking along those lines, I asked friends and family: “Though presents are not the reason for the Christmas season, they consume much of our thoughts, time, energy, and resources. How many people are on your Christmas gift list?” The responses are listed below:

-Too many people, I am poor.

-My list has gotten smaller: my kids and grandkids mainly and a few close friends and coworkers.

-Fifteen, I think – unless I forgot someone. Another question is how to pay for it all. Save all year long – a little each paycheck?

-Seven precious grandchildren, one fantastic hubby, and a pretty special mother-in-law.

-Less than ten.

-Approximately 25.

-About 30.

-Probably 20.

-Around 15.

-Eight people.

-Twenty-two, and I’m sure a few others!

-Four. All girls. You know who they are. They order. I pay.

-About 19 people, but some are families or couples. Sad to say that I haven’t really started on any of them yet except for the two granddaughters.

-Ten.

-Twenty.

-Thirteen.

-Mine has shortened! I actually only buy gifts for eight, but I fix nine stockings.

-It shouldn’t be a Christmas list – every day is a gifting day. My gift to my husband and everyone is getting this brace off!

-I have 13 people on my to-buy-for list and six additional maybe’s.

-Children, grandchildren, and some special friends. I love baking and making special treats.

My Christmas list includes 18. It helps me keep up with what I have done and what I still need to do. Caroline Kennedy said, “It’s true, Christmas can feel like a lot of work…. But when you look back on all the Christmases in your life, you’ll find you’ve created family traditions and lasting memories….” And those Christmas lists help us plan it all.
