National HOSA Week

During the week of December 5th – 8th, members of the Butler County ATC HOSA club will be celebrating National HOSA Week. HOSA is a national student organization endorsed by the U.S. Department of Education and the Health Science Education Division of ACTE.

HOSA's mission is to promote career opportunities in the health care industry and to enhance the delivery of quality health care to all people. HOSA provides a unique program of leadership development, motivation, and recognition exclusively for secondary, postsecondary, adult, and collegiate students enrolled in Health Science programs. HOSA is 100% health care!

During the past year, the Butler County Health Science program has provided Medicaid Nursing Assistant training to more than 50 high school and adult students as well as maintaining a pass rate of 92% on the state certification exam.  The majority of these students have been employed in health care facilities such as Morgantown Care and Rehab and/or have continued their education at the post-secondary level.

Students can also gain valuable work experience in health related fields besides nursing.  According to the Health Science Instructor, Teresa Rogers, high school students have the opportunity to study and gain clinical training as a Pharmacy Technician at Morgantown Prescription Center.  After graduation, they are eligible to take the national certification exam. Mrs. Rogers states that other areas of certification will be available soon.  Students interested in Medical Office, Phlebotomy, or EKG technician will have the opportunity receive national certification as well.
