Three local young ladies participated in The Inner Glitter Pageant this weekend in Hartford, Kentucky.  The pageant was created by Matilda and Paisley Patterson, a mother, and daughter who wanted to give those with special needs a platform to sparkle.
Shelby Gwathney, Shelby Mathews, and Becky Burden participated.

Haley and her daughter Shelby Gwathney.
"It meant a lot to me.  We had a lot of fun," said Haley Gwathney, whose daughter competed.
The pageant attracted 82 young ladies and each contestant received a trophy, sash, and crown of their own. These girls were not only given a moment to shine in which most would never have the opportunity otherwise, but they were provided hair, makeup, gift bags and goodies galore, jewelry, t-shirts, gift certificates, limo rides, professional photos.

"I just wanna say that it was an amazing event and we are grateful to have been a part of it. People with disabilities make up the largest minority in the world but are still the most underrepresented so it was wonderful to get to be part of an event that promoted such acceptance and inclusion," said parent Kristin Wilcox.

Butler County's  Miss Kaylin Hooten, Kentucky’s Humanitarian age 3, was a sponsor of the Inner Glitter for the 2nd year. Kaylin along with her pageant besties collected for months to fill goody bags for each 85 contestants.

"As Kaylin’s parents we are teaching about giving to others and having a giving heart. “ Giving is not just about making a donation... It is about making a difference.” We are proud of our small town and bringing awareness to many different organizations and events like the Inner Glitter,"said Regina Hooten.
