H.S. BASKETBALL: Bears, Lady Bears prep for season

Butler County to host Hebrews 12 Coffee Christmas Classic Dec. 21-22


MORGANTOWN - Butler County is slated to host the Hebrews 12 Coffee Christmas Classic Dec. 21-22. 

The Bears are scheduled to face reigning 2nd Region champion Madisonville-North Hopkins in an opening game of the Hebrews 12 Coffee Christmas Classic at 10 a.m. on Monday, Dec. 21.

In its second game in the Hebrews 12 Coffee Christmas Classic at 8 p.m. on Monday, Dec. 21, Butler County is due to meet 13th Region championship contender Whitley County.

The Bears are scheduled to square off against 3rd Region rival Meade County in the Hebrews 12 Coffee Christmas Classic at 7 p.m. on Tuesday, Dec. 22. 

Under the guidance of head coach Calvin Dockery, Butler County is scheduled to tip off the 2020-21 boys' high school basketball season versus Henderson County in the Agrigold Thanksgiving Classic at the Owensboro Sportscenter at 6:30 p.m. on Saturday, Nov. 28. 

Butler County opened preseason practice in late-October. 

The Bears, following a loss to Owensboro Catholic in the opening round of the 3rd Region Boys' Basketball Tournament, concluded the 2019-20 season 21-10. Butler County is the reigning 12th District champion. The Bears pulled away to beat familiar foe Grayson County 63-51 in the 2019-20 12th District Boys' Basketball Tournament title game. 

Butler County tied for the second-most wins in the 3rd Region during the 2019-20 boys' high school basketball season.

Lady Bears to compete in Todd Central Christmas Classic


MORGANTOWN - Butler County is scheduled to compete in the Todd Central Christmas Classic, a girls' high school basketball holiday event, December 21-22. 

The Lady Bears are slated to face Livingston Central on the first day of the Todd Central Christmas Classic at 6 p.m. on Monday, Dec. 21. 

Butler County is set to meet Cumberland County in the Todd Central Christmas Classic at 6:30 p.m. on Tuesday, Dec. 22. 

A member of the 12th District, Butler County is preparing to tip off the 2020-21 girls' high school basketball season at Russellville on Tuesday, Nov. 24. Butler County and Russellville are poised to battle in a non-district girls' basketball game. 

The Lady Bears opened preseason practice in late-October. 

The Lexie Belcher-coached Lady Bears compiled a 13-17 record during the 2019-20 girls' high school basketball season. Butler County lost to rival Grayson County in the 2019-20 12th District Girls' Basketball Semifinals. 

 

The 12th District features Butler County, Grayson County, Edmonson County and Whitesville Trinity. Edmonson County is the reigning 12th District girls' basketball champion.
