Murray State starting pitcher CheyAnne Gaskey struck out a career-high eight batters in her first complete game as the Racers defeated Campbellsville 7-0 in non-conference action at Racer Field. Gaskey faced-off against former 3rd Region foe Martina Riney, who was on the mound for Campbellsville.

The Racers (20-15) kicked off the bottom of the first with five runs, starting on a line drive single by Casey Castile off the glove of the Campbellsville short stop that drove in Ellyn Troup and Megan Glosser. Alexa Becker plated three more runs in the Racers next at bat, homering to deep left for her third round-tripper of the season.

Casey Castile scored the first run of the Racers third, leading the inning off with a double to center off of the outfield wall. She advanced to third on a wild pitch, and was joined on base when Alexa Becker drew a walk. Becker would successfully steal second as Campbellsville cut off the throw, but the Tigers weren’t able to get Castile out at home as she slid around the tag attempt for the game’s sixth run. Becker advanced to third on the throw, and would later score on a single over second base into shallow center by Sarah Anderson to take a 7-0 lead.

Gaskey improved to 3-2 on the season, limiting Campbellsville to five hits and walking none.

Castile and Anderson led the Racers with a pair of hits each. Castile drove in two runs and scored twice in the game, while Becker led the team with three runs driven in.

The Racers return to Ohio Valley Conference action this weekend, hosting Austin Peay in a three-game set Saturday and Sunday afternoon. Games both days start at 1 p.m. at Racer Field.
