Fun and festivities at the second West Ohio Street Chalk Art Festival!

photos by Karen Harper Lain

“The 2017 West Ohio Street Chalk Art Festival is in the books!  This free and fun event, which was sponsored by the Butler County Arts Guild, was a repeat of the first Chalk Art Festival, which took place in 2016 at the same location on West Ohio Street.  Partnering with the Arts Guild to host this year’s event were the Butler County Public Library and the Morgantown-Butler County Tourism Commission.

Like last year’s festival, a good time was had by all.  Kids of all ages, and many adults, created art with the free chalk provided to everyone.   They also enjoyed free popcorn, ice cream and cookies, along with bottled water.  The younger children especially enjoyed blowing bubbles, while the older children drew and jumped rope and played Four-Square in between creating their chalk masterpieces.  The day also included music, a silent auction and a performance by the Morgantown Line Dancers.

Butler County Arts Guild representative Karen Harper Lain said, “This event was a huge success and is proof positive that promoting art can be good for a community’s mental, physical and economic health.  Seeing the smiles on the kids’ faces and hearing laughter from kids and adults both is a great feeling.  Our community is a wonderful place, and the Arts Guild is grateful to all the sponsors of this event and most importantly, to all the folks who came out today to create art and enjoy the fellowship with their family, friends and neighbors.  We’re already excited about next year’s festival.”

The pictures speak for themselves.”
