Don Locke; Lookin Thru Bifocals

I never saw an angel. I think they are there. I believe a former pastor did. He could never say for sure; he would just grin when you ask about it. Before he went into the ministry we were drafted and sent to Vietnam.

He went to a V.S outpost, along with a couple other replacements. The second night he was assigned sentinel duty beyond the fence. There were other sentinels seated around outside the fence of the outpost.

He was to stay awake and warn of any enemy activity by firing his rifle. He took a seat on a log just before dark, while he could still see he saw the person setting on a log nearby. The man never looked his way, no weapon. They just both sat quietly all night... not speaking or looking at each other. When morning came, the stranger was gone.

“Who was he? You think.” I asked.

“I don’t know” he answered.

“I think you do” I said.

“And I think you think I know” he just grinned.

Kindest Regards…
