Bears Baseball falls to Russellville

Dillen White on the mound

The Bears look to rebound after a tough loss to Russellville High School Panthers at the BCHS baseball complex on Tuesday night when they head to the South Warren Leadoff Classic this weekend.

The senior right handed pitcher Dillen White had the start on the mound Tuesday night.  This was White’s first start pitching for the season.  After giving up five runs in the first inning of action, White was able to “find his groove” and put together four solid innings of baseball. The senior allowed one runner to cross the plate for the rest of his outing. White allowed 6 hits and struck out five batters while walking three over five innings of work.

The Bears offense was able to respond to the run deficit and came roaring back and scored 7 runs over the next five innings, giving them and 7-6 lead.  Offensive leaders included Steven White, Cole Tynes, and Keston Flener, who all had multiple hits in the game.

Senior Steven White relieved Dillen White on the mound going into the sixth inning of action. White was able to retire two of the first three batters he faced.  After a throwing error was made to first base following a strike out with two outs, the Panthers were able to rally to score two runs and take the lead 8-7.  In the seventh inning, the Panthers bats came alive once again, scoring 7 runs.  The Bears offense was unable to answer with one run in the bottom of the seventh, making the final score 15-8.

According to BCHS head coach Kevin Winn, “We have to learn how to close games out and not let one mistake change the course of the game. We are seeing improvement every game, but still have a lot of work ahead of us.”

Friday the BCHS Bears will make the short drive down the Natcher Parkway to face Allen County in the South Warren Leadoff Classic at 5:00.  Saturday BCHS will face South Warren at 10:00 AM, and Hancock County at 12:30 PM.
