BCMS Boys: 7th Grade Picks Up Two Wins- 8th Grade Goes 1-1

With only three weeks left of regular season action for the boys’ middle school basketball team, they had the luxury of staying at home this week.  Both games on Monday and Tuesday were played on the Bears’ home floor.  On Monday night the Russellville Panthers came to town for a visit looking for a little hospitality but were sent home licking their wounds instead.  Both 7th and 8th grade teams came out on the attack taking early leads and just kept building on them.  In the 7th grade game, the Panthers were simply way outsized by the Bears starting five in Bailey Anderson, Blake Graham, Rex Henderson, Kaleb Casey, and Kyle Casey.    The Bears led at halftime with a score of 29 – 12 and went on to win this one easily with a score of 53 – 31.  Rex Henderson was the leading scorer with 20.  Also scoring in the 7th grade game was Blake Graham with 8, Kyle Casey 7, Kaleb Hunt 6, Chandler Franzell 5, Bailey Anderson 2, Kaleb Casey 2, Brennan Grubb 2, and Ty Burden 1.

The 8th grade game against Russellville saw plenty of opportunities for all members of the 8th grade team to see playing time as well as  plenty of chances for players to pad their stats with assists and rebounds.  Twelve 8th grade players got in the score book for the Bears.  Leading scorer was Rex Henderson once again with 14 points.  Blake Graham had 13, Dallas Miller 6, Bailey Anderson 5, John Chapman 3, Ian Embry 3, Nolan Johnson 2, Jacob Hixenbaugh 2, Dylan Inglis 2, Austin Nave 2, Rodney Woosley 2, and Kaleb Casey 2.

Tuesday night the Bears welcomed the neighboring Eagles from Ohio County.  These two teams met earlier in the season and split with 7th grade picking up the win and 8th grade falling just two points short.  Butler County’s 7th grade team came out much like they did on Monday night against Russellville and took charge early.  Rex Henderson had a big night, picking up  18 points with Blake Graham also getting in double digits with 10. The Bears defensive effort was quite impressive, only allowing the Eagles 4 field goals and one 3 point goal on the night. The Eagles put in 3 free throws for a total of only 14 points for the entire game.   The Bears, on the other hand, scored a total of 49 points. Other points came from Kyle Casey with 6, Bailey Anderson 5, Kaleb Casey 4, Ty Burden 2, Brennan Grubb 2, and Austin Norris 2.
Butler County’s 8th grade team left Ohio County earlier in the season with a bad taste in their mouths after losing a hard fought battle with the Eagles by only 2 points.   The Bears were hoping to even the score on their home court but fell a little short in the end.  The Bears were plagued with scoring difficulties and struggled in the rebounding department.   The Bears were charge with a total of 15 fouls on the night creating 11 made free throws out of 21 for the Eagles.  The Eagles racked up 12 fouls of their own creating 9 made free throws out of 15 for the Bears.  In the end, 8 made free throws by the Eagles in the 4th quarter sealed the deal and they went on to beat the Bears by 10 points with a score of 26 – 36.   Scoring for the Bears was Blake Graham with 10, Bailey Anderson 7, Rex Henderson 6, Nolan Johnson 2, and Rodney Woosley 1.
