Andrea's Mission For Men Begins Operation
Andrea's Mission For Men is a Christ-centered recovery program that has recently been founded in Butler County. Through witnessing the ongoing success and impact of the women's program, Jimmy Flener, the founder of People Who care Ministries felt a calling to begin a men's facility in Butler County. The Women's program began approximately 2 years ago and has assisted 20 women in the recovery process. Before Andrea's mission was founded, People Who Care Ministries offered financial assistance to send addicts to treatment facilities in the area.
The idea for the men's program was prompted when Flener was questioned about a Men's program by Butler County Jailer Terry Fugate after a ministry held at the jail one evening. From that point onward Flener knew that it needed to be done.
The Andrea's Mission For Men facility is located at 401 N. Main Street in the former Active Day Care Center, also known as the old Dr. Miller house. Many renovations have been completed to the facility to make it more suitable for the program's needs. Flooring work, as well as fresh paint and furniture have been added.
Furnishings and living accommodations have been made possible through various donations. The Gasper River Ladies constructed 20 quilts to be used for bedding. Pillows have been donated by a college group, and the beds were all constructed by the jail crew. The program also receives monthly financial contributions from six local churches.
The facility will have the capability to house and minister 20 recovering addicts, however the program is beginning with three. The staff of the facility are qualified to teach the 12-step recovery process and conduct group therapy. Bob Wilson, a volunteer for the program looks to Jeremiah 29:11 for the program's purpose and inspiration, "I know the plans I have for you declares the Lord, plans to give you hope and give you future."
Flener stated, "I'd like to thank all the people in Butler County that have supported us through the women's facility, and now the men's facility. The people of Butler County are really stepping up."
Chad Cardwell, the director of the program is confident that through ministry and researched recovery processes, the Men's program will only continue to expand over time. He stands as a living example that addiction can be overcome through intense motivation, guidance and ministry.
