Growing on the inside by being outside – Kentucky 4-H Environmental Education Camp

The Kentucky 4-H Environmental Education Camp (EE Camp) Program aims to provide elementary students the opportunity to learn about Kentucky’s natural resources in an out-of-school setting.  The program is designed for 4th and 5th grade classrooms with tailored lesson plans supplementing Next Generation Science Standards.  Class instructors provide meaningful, hands-on programs to educate youth in environmental sciences and cross-cutting concepts to bolster their in-class learning.

FCS Friday Program November 17th at Extension Office

The Butler County Extension Office will hold its “FCS Friday” program on November 17th from 2-4 p.m.  Osei Thomas will present “For the Love of Roses” at the Butler County Extension Office.  Attendees will receive the University of Kentucky publication on growing roses.

2024 Calendar Girl Karrington Hunt

The 33nd Annual Calendar Girl was held Saturday night, November 4 at the Butler County High School Gymnasium.  This event is the major fundraiser for the Butler County FCCLA.  This year’s Covergirl is Miss Karrington Hunt.  She is the daughter of Kristie and Bryan Hunt.

Embry honored during Calendar Girl

Mrs. Kimberlea Embry and Cover Girl Karrington Hunt

During the Annual Calendar Girl pageant, Mrs. Kimberlea Embry was honored. Mrs. Embry has been teaching Family and Consumer Science for the last 34 years; 31 of those years have been at Butler County. In addition to teaching FCS classes, Mrs. Embry has been an FCCLA advisor for all those years. She has mentored countless students, encouraging them to run for regional and state office and persuading them to compete in STAR events, especially her beloved Parliamentary Procedures team event. Butler County Chapter NSDAR presents Community Service Award

The Butler County Chapter NSDAR recently recognized Anna Darlene Scott of Morgantown as their 2023 Community Service Award recipient. Mrs. Scott, as a member of the Butler County Piecemakers, spoke of their work creating quilts for numerous Veterans. Anne Hamilton, KSDAR State Community Service Award Chair, was there to present the certificate and pin to Mrs. Scott. Family and friends as well as other members of the quilting group attended to see the presentation.

Barnetts Lick welcomes new pastor

The congregation of Barnetts Lick Southern Missionary Baptist Church is pleased to welcome their new pastor Bro. Gene Garner and his wife, Sister Patty.  

Service times are Sunday School at 9:00 a.m., Worship at 10:00 a.m., and Wednesday at 6:30 p.m. 

Barnetts Lick Church also is hosting a Fall Festival on Saturday, October 28, from 4 to 6:00 p.m. Several activities are planned with soup and sandwiches in the fellowship hall.

Everyone is invited to attend.

Butler County Women Eligible for Free Ovarian Cancer Screening

The UK Markey Cancer Screening Program provides free annual sonographic screenings to women across Kentucky with the goal of detecting cancer early.  When caught early, ovarian cancer is treatable and curable.  Since the program began in 1987, 51,000 participants have received over 365,000 free screenings through the program.  

All women over 50 are eligible for the free ovarian cancer screening.  Women over the age of 25, who have a family history of ovarian cancer, are also eligible for the screening.

WoodmenLife Giving Together completes Beautification Project

Local WoodmenLife Insurance Agent Jake Martin and elected county officials completed a Community Beautification Project in front of the Butler County Courthouse on Friday morning. The group included Clerk Sherry Johnson, Attorney Michele Duvall, Circuit Clerk Melissa Cardwell, Jailer Wayne Russ, PVA Kenny Swift, and Judge Tim Flener.
