Rochester Ballpark has lights

The Rochester Ballpark is coming along nicely. The Paradise TVA Retiree Volunteer Chapter and workers from Pennyrile Electric came to the ballpark to set poles and lights.

Several local people also showed up to lend a helping hand, Steve Abbott, Greg Baxter, Sandy Priddy, Mayor Horace Hammers and Sue, and Mr. Givens.

TVA retirees included: Lewis Travis, Robert Whitmer, Byron Groves, Danny Walker, Stanley Fulkerson, Steve Layne, Terry Southerland, Charles Perry, Neil Poole, Darrell Sisk, and Tom Calvert.
Charles Perry, one of the retirees has roots in Butler County.  According to Perry, Penrod, where he lives, had a ballpark but no lights until he was twelve.
“We are working for Bicentennial Volunteers Inc., which is a retirees’ division.  When you retire, you can register for retirement resources.  When work comes up, they will call you out if you wish to go out on a job,” said Perry.
The group does a variety of job from building ramps for wheelchair bound individuals, raising a garden, to setting light poles.
“Joys divided and given are actually multiplied many times over,” added Perry.

The group returned on July 28, to set the remaining light poles.  Keith and Shaun Putnam added the finishing touches to the wiring. Thanks to everybody who helped in anyway, soon the words “Play Ball” will be heard once again in Rochester.
