North Butler Elementary a Proficient School for 2nd Consecutive Year

On Wednesday, September 29th the staff of NBES was informed by Principal Josh Belcher that the school has been classified as Proficient/Progressing for the 2nd consecutive year.  The classification is a result of the Unbridled Learning Accountability System and the schools performance on the annual Kentucky Performance Rating for Educational Progress Assessment (K-PREP). The K-PREP assessment measures performance in the following areas at the elementary level:
* Math and reading for all students grades 3-5
* Language mechanics and science for grade 4 (science was not accountable in 2014-15)
*Social studies and writing for grade 5
In addition to those subjects the accountability system measures GROWTH (student improvement to equal peers), GAP (performance of students of disability, poverty and/or ethnicity other than Caucasian) and Program Review Audits that measure the effectiveness of the writing, arts and humanities, practical living and K-3 programs. All areas of the accountability system are then weighted to formulate a score and classification to indicate the schools performance in relationship to other schools across the state.
North Butler Elementary had an overall score of 67.8. This score put NBES in the 72nd percentile (top 28 percent) amongst Kentucky elementary schools.  The top 30 percent of schools across the state were given a Proficient classification, the top 10 percent of schools were classified as Distinguished, and the rest labeled as Needs Improvement.  The school reached the overall AMO goal (Annual Measurable Objective) of 67.1 that the Kentucky Department of Education assigned to the school.
Principal Josh Belcher

“I am thrilled for our students, teachers and support staff for once again getting recognition for their hard work and commitment to learning.  I do not believe that the state assessment is the end all – tell all of the effectiveness of a school.  I am more proud of the character development, love and work ethic that is witnessed within the walls of North Butler every day.  But to say that I am not thrilled to be classified as high achieving would be false.  The adults and kids in this building are goal driven, they want to excel at all things, so we are very proud today and we will celebrate this accomplishment.  I truly believe that we have the best students and staff in the state, and we will continue to show growth each and every day. I would like to congratulate Butler County School District for being classified Proficient as well.  Mr. Scott Howard and all of the district staff, as well as the Butler County School Board members are so effective in their roles and truly care for all students.  It is a complete team effort in our district and I am proud to be a small part of it” –Josh Belcher, Principal
