Fiscal Court Awards Green River Equipment Leasing, McKendree Chapel Rd Bid

Butler County Judge Executive David Fields

The Butler County Fiscal Court met in a brief special session on Tuesday evening, October 21, 2014, at 5:30. Magistrate Keith Daugherty was absent from the meeting. Two agenda items awaited the Court.

First on the agenda was the bid for the final phase of the ongoing McKendree Chapel Road improvement project. At the last regular meeting of the Court, Judge-Executive David Fields informed the Court that two bids for the work had been received from Scott & Murphy, INC. and Green River Equipment Leasing, INC. Fields stated at the last meeting that both the bids would cause the county to exceed their budget, and therefore couldn’t be accepted. At that time he said that Kentucky laws allow for the bids to be renegotiated with the bidders.

On Tuesday night, the Judge told the Court that Road Supervisor Timmy West had renegotiated the bids. Fields reported that after renegotiation the low bid belonged to Green River Equipment Leasing, INC. at a total of $121,883.24, and the Judge recommended that the Court accept their bid. Timmy West told the Court that he was able to lower the bid by the County Road Department taking on the responsibility of tree removal at the site and placing the tiles at the site. He told the Court that both tree removal and tile installation are almost complete at the site.

Magistrate Stevie Givens moved to accept the bid with Johnny Tuck seconding. The motion passed by a 4-0 vote.

Next, the Court approved payment to Metal Works 360 in the amount of $43.987.50 cents for construction of 9 recycling trailers. Judge Fields told the Court that the payment represents half the total purchase price, and that the County and Metal Works had agreed upon the half payment up front.

Magistrate David Whittinghill asked Fields and Road Supervisor Timmy West if the plastic compartment on the new trailers would be larger, and if the cardboard compartment would be smaller. West told Whittinghill that some changes had been made to the trailers to make them better suit the needs of the county, and would not raise the cost of the trailers.

Magistrate Stevie Givens moved to make the payment, with David Whittinghill seconding. The Court voted 4-0 to approve.

With no other agenda items the meeting was then adjourned.
