People interested in keeping honeybees have the opportunity to participate in a short-course that will help them learn to be a beekeeper.  Extension agents in Butler and Warren County are working together to provide a top notch learning experience that will help participants be ready to have their own beehives.  The program will cover bee biology and the different types of bees, all the different beekeeping equipment, a hands-on session where all the parts of the hive are assembled, a session on management of hives during a beekeeping year, and a hands-on session where we work some hives and participants can see for themselves what a beehive looks like on the inside.

The sessions are in Butler or Warren County and most are at those Extension offices.  The registration fee is $50 for the entire program.  The class will meet 5 times between December 1st and April 13th.  Each class will begin at 6:00 p.m. and finish at 8:00 p.m.  The registration deadline is November 14th and class size is limited do to the hands-on nature of this program.

To sign up for the Beginning Beekeeping Program, call the Butler County Extension Office at 526-3767 or the Warren County Extension Office at 842-1681.
