BCHS Softball: 12th District Runner-Up

The Butler County High School softball team came up short last week in its bid to win a 12th District title.  The Bears fell 5-0 to host Grayson County.  Things got away from the Bears in the second inning as the Cougars put together a string of hits, while taking advanage of a Butler County error, in plating five runs during the inning.  Meanwhile, Butler County was able to scatter only five hits for the game and never advanced a runner to third base.
Pitching in relief of starter Kassie Phelps, who left the game in the second inning, sophomore Zoie Pendley pitched 5 1/3 scoreless innings.

Taylor King, Cheyenne White (2B), Maddie McKinney, Abigail Fry, and Emily Rich all had hits for Butler County.
"It was defintely a tough game for us," said B.C.H.S. coach John Embry.  "Grayson got hot at the right time and we struggled offensively the entire game.  We were just never able to get much going offensively."
Both teams advance to the Third Region Tournament this week.  Butler County is currently scheduled to play Meade County at 5:30 on Wednesday, though weather may change the tournament schedule.

Butler County had several players recognized for individual accomplishments.  Emily Rich was named to the 12th District All Academic Team; Madison Clark, Cheyenne White and Maddie McKinney were named to the 12th District All Season Team; and Kassie Phelps, Zoie Pendley, and Abigail Fry were named to the 12th District All Tournament Team.
Butler County (24-13) will be playing in its eighth regional tournament in nine years.
